Products and Quality
The CE mark is replaced by norm EN1492, because the straps are certified according to this norm, and it has always been a base line for our manufacturing.
EN1492 machine norm clearly states the CE mark to be on the product but the problem is that the bags are not included in the EN1492 machine directive - in principle, this means that our customers can use any bag with no certification.
As permitted, we have followed the norm even though the bags are not included in the norm, which is why we are not allowed to CE mark our bags. We manufacture our bags according to the EN norm, as that is what has been used as a base line for the manufacturing since we began.
In the past everyone was happy with the CE mark on the bags, but we have been instructed by the EU to remove the CE mark from all bags and we are not to show it on the label. This of course applies to all similar lifting bags from other bag manufacturers - even if they still put the CE marking on their bags.
The only way to get the CE mark back on the bags is to have the EU create a standard for the product. This may take some time - but we are working on it!
The EN 1492-1 standard is found in the Council Directive of 17 May 2006 (2006/42/EF). The standard focus on flat woven webbing slings and is at EMG used as guidance for the production of the lifting bags with respect to load factor, marking, inspection interval and instruction manual.
In accordance with EN 1492-1 all of our lifting bags are produced and tested to withstand a vertical safety factor of 7:1 although our internal goals are to pass requirements of at least 10:1.
With this standard we ensure that our slings, stitching and final products have been tested to withstand the WLL requirements of each specific bag.
The ISO 21898 standard focus on flexible intermediate bulk containers and is at EMG used as guidance for the production of lifting bags with respect to load factor, pressure testing and marking.
In accordance with ISO 21898 our lifting bags are produced and tested to withstand a cycle of 70 load tests of safety factor 6:1. This cyclic top lift test will be performed using plastic granulate or actual content.
Furthermore, a compression/stacking test will be performed for 6 hours.
With this standard we ensure that our slings, fabric, stitching, buckles, zippers and final products have been tested to withstand the WLL requirements of each specific bag.
ASME B30.9 includes provisions that apply to the fabrication, attachment, use, inspection, testing, and maintenance of slings used for load handling purposes. This standard is only relevant for our customers located in USA.
Most of our product range is produced at our facilities in Vietnam.

Service
Lifting bags should always be visually inspected before use.
Generally, lifting bags from EMG must be officially inspected every 12 months. In some countries, like the UK, the bags must be inspected every 6 months. Consult your local/national guidelines if in doubt.
Bag inspectors must be trained to inspect and assess lifting equipment. EMG offers such a course.

The guidelines regarding the lifespan of lifting bags have been changed after thoroughly evaluating the strength of the material and composition of the bags.
The new guidelines are as follows:
“For lifting equipment, if the product is used as intended for lifting, the product will last for a maximum of 96 months (8 years) from the production date, this is split into 0-36 months of storage life before taken to use, followed by 60 months (5 years) from the first day of use.”
These guidelines are also applicable for bags previously purchased.
You should always see the relevant user instruction for guidance and use.
If you do not have the user instruction at your disposal you can find it here
At EMG we offer an instruction course for proberly inspecting our lifting bags. As long as your company has one or more employees who are certified through our inspection course you are able to act as an approved service facility.

Writing directly on the fabric, is not something we encourage. However, it shouldn’t be an issue, as long as the ink is not oil based or otherwise damaging to the material.
- No use of solvents are allowed.
- Never write on the lifting slings/webbing.
- We recommend writing on the hard bottom cover, if the bags has such.
Remember that EMG or Certified Dealers can have a logo and/or name, printed professionally on the bags if needed.
